Corby steelworks closes and Steve Kenny, looking for work, purchases some stock from friend Mark Hangar of P&H Carpets. He begins selling it at Rothwell market.
Steve is standing on markets at Rothwell, Corby, Wellingborough and with the help of his son Jim; Finmere market on Sundays.
Jim joins full time, and a small business is born.
S & J Kenny Carpets opens its first shop on the High Street in Irthlingborough
S & J Kenny Carpets opens its second shop at Knox Road, Wellingborough
Due to the larger selection available at the Wellingborough shop, Jim and Steve decide to close their Irthlingborough shop
Steve Kenny retires from the business, coming in to help where needed.
Joe Kenny joins the business full time (the 3rd generation to join S & J Kenny Carpets)
Jess Kenny joins the business part time
S & J Kenny Carpets remains in Wellingborough but re-locates from its Knox Road premises to a larger, more accessible showroom complete with customer parking on the Denington Road Industrial Estate.
Tthe business continues to grow in it’s new environment, whilst always remembering its core values of great customer service - and its humble beginnings.
